West Bengal continues to strengthen its position as a key industrial and manufacturing hub in India, with Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd. achieving a major global milestone in specialty chemicals manufacturing.

The company has successfully commenced commercial operations of a 70,000 MTPA Speciality Carbon Black production line at its manufacturing facility located in Mahistikry, Hooghly district. This expansion marks a significant step forward in advanced materials manufacturing from Bengal.

With the commissioning of this brownfield expansion, Himadri’s total carbon black manufacturing capacity has increased to 2,50,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA). Out of this, 1,30,000 MTPA is dedicated to speciality carbon black production at the Mahistikry facility alone.

At this scale, the Mahistikry plant has now become the world’s largest single-location specialty carbon black manufacturing site, placing Hooghly firmly on the global map of high-value chemical manufacturing.

Specialty carbon black plays a crucial role across industries including tyres, plastics, coatings, inks, electronics, and advanced industrial applications. The expansion reflects rising global demand for high-performance materials and India’s growing capabilities in specialty chemical production.

Headquartered in Kolkata, Himadri exports its products to 56 countries across North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, demonstrating the global competitiveness of Bengal-based manufacturing enterprises.

The development also highlights West Bengal’s evolving industrial ecosystem, supported by infrastructure, skilled talent, and increasing investments in advanced manufacturing sectors. As companies continue to scale operations and expand export reach, the state is steadily emerging as an important contributor to India’s manufacturing and export growth story.

This milestone reinforces how Bengal’s industries are not only expanding domestically but are also playing a significant role in global supply chains.
