The West Bengal government has unveiled a major employment and industrial development roadmap in the Bengal Budget 2026, announcing plans to recruit 1 lakh employees across various government departments while also outlining a ₹40,000 crore industrial and development push aimed at accelerating economic growth.

A significant portion of the proposed recruitment drive will focus on the education and law enforcement sectors. The government plans to appoint 50,000 teachers and education staff, along with 20,000 police personnel. The budget also extends the existing five-year upper age relaxation for government job applicants by another two years.

In a move aimed at promoting inclusivity, 33% of recruitment opportunities will be reserved for women. Additionally, 10% of eligible posts will be earmarked for Agniveers under the Centre's Agnipath scheme.

Alongside employment generation, the budget places strong emphasis on industrialisation and investment attraction. The state government has announced a ₹40,000 crore development and industrial initiative that will focus on improving the ease of doing business and supporting large-scale investments.

As part of this effort, the government plans to introduce land reforms to improve the availability of land for industrial projects and simplify approvals through a single-window clearance system. The measures are expected to support new manufacturing ventures and attract investments across key sectors.

The industrial push is expected to cover emerging and high-growth areas such as semiconductor manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure development, and advanced manufacturing, reflecting the state's ambition to strengthen its industrial ecosystem.

With a combination of large-scale job creation and investment-focused reforms, the Bengal Budget 2026 signals a dual strategy of boosting employment while positioning West Bengal as an attractive destination for business and industry.
