Vikram Solar to Invest ₹27,000 Crore in Bengal, 12,000 Green Jobs Likely

In a major boost to West Bengal’s clean energy and manufacturing ecosystem, Bengal-based Vikram Solar is preparing to invest ₹27,000 crore to establish a world-class energy transition manufacturing hub in the state.

The proposed investment is expected to emerge as one of India’s largest clean energy manufacturing projects and has the potential to create nearly 12,000 green jobs, significantly strengthening Bengal’s industrial and employment landscape.

According to the proposal, the project will develop an integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem covering the complete value chain — from ingots and wafers to solar cells and photovoltaic (PV) modules. Such an integrated setup is expected to enhance India’s self-reliance in solar manufacturing while supporting the country’s broader renewable energy ambitions.

Vikram Solar has reportedly indicated a requirement of nearly 700 acres of land for the mega project, underlining the scale and long-term vision behind the investment.

The proposed manufacturing hub also reflects West Bengal’s growing attractiveness as an investment destination, particularly in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability-led industries.

As India accelerates its clean energy transition, investments of this scale are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities, reducing import dependency, and generating employment opportunities.

With this proposed ₹27,000-crore investment, Bengal could further position itself as a key player in India’s green energy revolution.
