West Bengal Plans ₹5,000 Crore Industrial Corridor Programme to Boost Manufacturing and Connectivity
West Bengal is preparing for one of its largest industrial infrastructure initiatives in recent years, with a proposed ₹5,000 crore industrial corridor development programme aimed at strengthening manufacturing, logistics, and connectivity across the state.
The project is expected to receive nearly ₹4,000 crore in funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Korea Eximbank (KEXIM). According to reports, around 2,962 acres of government land have already been identified for the initiative, while loan disbursement is expected to begin in May 2027.
A key component of the programme is the development of two major industrial corridors. The proposed Raghunathpur–Tajpur Industrial Corridor will connect important industrial and economic centres including Asansol, Raniganj, Durgapur, Burdwan, Dankuni, and Uluberia before reaching the upcoming deep-sea port at Tajpur. Another corridor connecting Dankuni and Jhargram through Uluberia and Kharagpur is also planned.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve industrial connectivity across West Bengal, creating a seamless network between manufacturing hubs, logistics centres, highways, rail infrastructure, and ports. Such connectivity could enhance the ease of doing business, attract fresh investments, and support the state's industrial growth ambitions.
In addition to the southern and western parts of the state, the programme also includes industrial infrastructure development in the Siliguri–Jalpaiguri region. Work related to industrial infrastructure is already reported to be at an advanced stage in Raghunathpur, Asansol, and Dankuni.
Experts believe that industrial corridors play a crucial role in attracting large-scale manufacturing investments by providing integrated infrastructure, improved transportation links, and better access to domestic and international markets. With the proposed Tajpur Port expected to emerge as a major logistics gateway in eastern India, the corridor network could further strengthen West Bengal's position as a strategic manufacturing and trade destination.
If implemented as planned, the ₹5,000 crore programme could become a major catalyst for industrialisation, employment generation, and economic growth across West Bengal in the coming years.
