In a landmark development for Bengal’s logistics and e-commerce ecosystem, Amazon Seller Services has signed a 20-year lease for over 5.6 lakh sq ft of warehousing space in Hooghly. This is one of the largest warehousing transactions in Eastern India, valued at nearly ₹430 crore in rentals.

The upcoming facility, being developed by Nahar Industrial Enterprises, will be handed over between January and June 2026, with lease operations beginning on June 1, 2026.

Why this matters:

  • Regional Impact: The Hooghly fulfilment center will strengthen Amazon’s supply chain across West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and the Northeast.
  • Faster Deliveries: By placing inventory closer to customers, Amazon aims to reduce delivery timelines significantly.
  • Economic Boost: The project is expected to create jobs and growth opportunities in warehousing, logistics, and allied industries.

Amazon already has fulfilment centers in and around Kolkata. This expansion reaffirms the e-commerce giant’s long-term commitment to Bengal’s consumption-driven growth story and further positions the state as a rising logistics hub for Eastern India.
