Emami to Invest ₹400 Crore in West Bengal Food Park
Emami Group has announced a major investment in West Bengal's food processing sector, unveiling plans to set up a ₹400 crore food park that will strengthen the state's manufacturing ecosystem and accelerate the company's expansion into packaged foods.
The Kolkata-headquartered conglomerate confirmed that its edible oil subsidiary, Emami Agrotech Ltd, will establish the new integrated manufacturing facility. The company has requested 22 acres of land from the West Bengal government for the project, which will consolidate multiple food manufacturing operations into a single location.
Major Push into Packaged Foods
The proposed food park is part of Emami's broader strategy to diversify beyond edible oils and become a significant player in India's fast-growing packaged foods market.
Over the past few years, Emami Agrotech has expanded its portfolio to include staples such as atta, spices, besan, soya chunks and suji. The company has also entered the packaged snacks segment with both traditional Indian snacks and western-style products through a mix of owned and contract manufacturing facilities.
The new food park will centralize production, improve operational efficiency and support future expansion into additional food categories.
₹750 Crore Expansion to Generate 4,000 Jobs
Emami Group has outlined a larger ₹750 crore investment for its snacks business, including the proposed manufacturing facility in West Bengal.
The expansion is expected to create approximately 4,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to the state's food processing industry and local economy.
Looking ahead, the company plans to further diversify into categories such as sweets and bakery products, strengthening its presence across the packaged foods market.
New Corporate Headquarters Planned in Kolkata
Alongside the manufacturing investment, Emami has also sought 3 to 4 acres of land in Kolkata to develop a new corporate headquarters.
The proposed campus will consolidate the group's operations, which are currently spread across multiple office locations in the city, creating a unified corporate base for the company.
Emami Agrotech Preparing for IPO
Emami Agrotech, which operates a ₹20,000 crore edible oil business, is also preparing for a future initial public offering (IPO).
According to the company, the IPO will be launched after the packaged foods business reaches sufficient scale to enhance overall valuation. Management believes that diversification into higher-growth FMCG categories will create greater long-term value for shareholders before listing.
As part of this transformation, Emami has strengthened its leadership team by appointing experienced FMCG professionals to drive the next phase of growth.
Boost for West Bengal's Manufacturing Ecosystem
The investment reinforces West Bengal's growing appeal as a destination for food processing and consumer goods manufacturing. With large-scale investments continuing across sectors such as FMCG, food processing, logistics and industrial manufacturing, the state is steadily attracting expansion plans from both homegrown and national companies.
For Kolkata, the announcement is particularly significant as one of its largest business groups continues to deepen its commitment to the city through both manufacturing expansion and plans for a new corporate headquarters.
The proposed food park is expected to further strengthen West Bengal's position as an important hub for food manufacturing while generating employment, supporting local supply chains and contributing to the state's industrial growth.
