West Bengal has received another major boost to its manufacturing ecosystem as Schneider Electric Infrastructure has increased the planned investment for its Kolkata Medium Voltage Components (KMVC) facility to ₹291.2 crore, up from the previously approved ₹228.6 crore.

The revised investment reflects the company's growing commitment to expanding its manufacturing footprint in Kolkata and strengthening India's electrical equipment supply chain.

As part of the updated project, the investment allocated for the main expansion has been increased from ₹138 crore to ₹184 crore, while the Mechanism Assembly Line investment has been revised from ₹90.6 crore to ₹107.2 crore.

The expansion will significantly enhance the plant's production capabilities. Annual manufacturing capacity for Medium Voltage Vacuum Interrupters will increase from the legacy capacity of 80,000 units to 2.5 lakh units. The project will also introduce dedicated assembly lines for Medium Voltage Vacuum Circuit Breakers, enabling the facility to cater to growing domestic and international demand.

Scheduled for completion by June 2028, the expansion is expected to support India's infrastructure and power sector while strengthening exports and increasing the localization of critical electrical components.

The investment aligns with the country's broader manufacturing objectives and reinforces Kolkata's position as an important hub for advanced electrical equipment manufacturing.

In recent years, West Bengal has continued to attract investments across engineering, railways, electronics, electric mobility, and industrial manufacturing. Schneider Electric's expanded commitment adds further momentum to the state's industrial growth story and highlights Kolkata's growing importance in India's manufacturing landscape.
