The 31st edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is set to celebrate the best of global cinema from November 6 to 13, and this year, Poland has been chosen as the Spotlight Country. marking a significant cultural exchange between India and the European nation.
The festival will feature five dedicated categories highlighting Polish cinema in all its diversity — from contemporary masterpieces and classics by legendary filmmakers, to a special centenary tribute to the acclaimed director Wojciech Jerzy, who was born in 1925 and passed away in 2000.
Polish animation films will also be screened, bringing to light the country’s creative storytelling traditions and artistic finesse. Another key highlight will be films exploring Indo-Polish ties, reflecting how cinema continues to bridge cultures and foster international understanding.
Among the 15 entries in the international competition, India’s representation comes through ‘Nadharer Bhela’ by Pradipta Bhattacharyya, the only Indian film in the lineup — a moment of pride for Indian cinema on the global stage.
As Kolkata gears up to host yet another cinematic extravaganza, the festival promises to be a celebration of stories, artistry, and cross-cultural dialogue — strengthening the city’s position as India’s cultural capital.
