Kolkata Metro Rolls Out Direct Airport–New Garia Services on Trial Basis
Kolkata Metro has taken another significant step towards improving urban connectivity with the launch of direct Metro services between the Airport and New Garia on a trial basis, starting December 15.
On an experimental basis, two direct services will operate on weekdays (Monday to Friday) between Jai Hind Bimanbandar (Airport) station and Shahid Khudiram (New Garia) station, travelling via Noapara. One service will run during the morning peak hours, while the other will operate late in the evening, catering to office commuters, frequent flyers, and late-night travellers.
This initiative marks a major milestone for Kolkata’s Metro network, as it offers passengers seamless end-to-end connectivity across the city without the need for interchanges. Direct Airport–New Garia services are expected to reduce travel time, improve convenience, and ease the dependency on road transport, especially during peak traffic hours.
If the trial proves successful, the move could pave the way for more frequent direct services in the future, further strengthening Kolkata’s public transport infrastructure and enhancing the overall commuting experience for lakhs of daily passengers.
With every such step, Kolkata continues to move closer to a more connected, efficient, and commuter-friendly future.
