West Bengal’s First DGCA-Authorized Drone Training Academy Launched in Kolkata by JIS Group
Kolkata has taken a significant leap into the future of aviation and emerging technologies with the launch of the JIS Drone Academy – RPTO at the SurTech Campus in Dum Dum. Established by the JIS Group, the academy is the first and largest university-based DGCA-authorized Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) in West Bengal.
The inauguration took place in the presence of distinguished dignitaries from the aviation, government, and technology sectors, marking a major milestone in the state’s journey toward building a robust drone ecosystem.
A First-of-Its-Kind Drone Training Ecosystem
The JIS Drone Academy is designed as a comprehensive hub that goes beyond basic pilot training. It offers DGCA-aligned Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) programmes for micro and small category drones, ensuring students receive industry-recognized certification.
Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, professional-grade drones, and advanced simulation systems, the academy adopts a hybrid training approach—combining classroom sessions, hands-on flying experience, and real-world industry exposure.

To meet the rising demand for skilled drone professionals, the academy will offer a wide range of specialized programmes, including:

The academy has also partnered with EduRade and Megh Robotics to strengthen its industry integration and provide practical learning opportunities.
