Kolkata’s startup ecosystem continues to shine on the national stage as GAPPU, a homegrown lifestyle musical instruments brand, recently appeared on Shark Tank India Season 5 and successfully secured an investment deal.
Founded by Anirban Bhattacharya and Pallab Ghosh, GAPPU is an Indian musical instrument brand that focuses on creating handmade percussion instruments designed for musicians, creators, and music enthusiasts. The brand manufactures a wide range of rhythm instruments including cajons, shakers, bongos, tambourines, and other percussion accessories. Known for their craftsmanship and portability, GAPPU’s travel-friendly instruments aim to make music accessible anytime, anywhere.
The founders entered the tank seeking an investment of ₹30 Lakhs for 1% equity in their company. After discussions and negotiations with the sharks, entrepreneur Amit Jain made a counter-offer of ₹10 Lakhs for 3% equity along with ₹20 Lakhs as debt at 12% interest for a period of three years. The founders accepted the offer, successfully closing the deal on the show.
This achievement holds special significance for us at Kolkata Calling, as GAPPU was also one of the startups featured on our Hello Kolkata! Podcast, where we had the opportunity to showcase their journey, passion for music, and entrepreneurial vision emerging from the City of Joy.
At Kolkata Calling, we have always believed in supporting and amplifying startups and innovators from Kolkata who are building unique brands and taking local ideas to a national platform. Seeing GAPPU gain recognition on one of India’s biggest startup shows is a proud moment for the city’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem.
We congratulate Anirban and Pallab on this milestone and wish Team GAPPU continued success as they take Kolkata’s rhythm to audiences across India and beyond.
