Burnpur Steel Plant Gets ₹854.57 Crore Pellet Plant Project as SAIL Targets 4.08 Million Tonnes of Steel Capacity
SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, is undertaking a ₹854.57-crore pellet plant project as part of its broader expansion programme to strengthen steel production capacity. The project has been awarded to SEPC Limited and includes the balance-of-plant package, covering civil and structural works.
The development comes as the steel plant targets an annual crude steel production capacity of 4.08 million tonnes, marking a significant step in its long-term expansion plans.
SEPC Limited Secures ₹854.57 Crore Contract
The contract was signed on October 8, 2026, with an effective date of September 3, 2026, and a completion period of 32 months.
The gross contract value stands at ₹951.60 crore. After accounting for a tax credit of ₹97.04 crore to be passed on to SAIL, the reported net contract value is ₹854.57 crore.
The project covers the balance-of-plant package, including civil and structural works required for the pellet plant's development.
Another ₹673.32 Crore Order Awarded in June
The latest contract follows another major order awarded to SEPC Limited by IISCO Steel Plant on June 15, 2026. That ₹673.32-crore order covered coke oven and sinter plant packages.
Together, the two contracts represent substantial infrastructure work linked to the expansion of the Burnpur facility. The projects span multiple components of steel production, including pelletisation, coke ovens and sintering.
Burnpur's Role in West Bengal's Industrial Growth
The expansion of SAIL's IISCO Steel Plant reinforces Burnpur's position as an important centre of steel manufacturing in West Bengal. Investments in production infrastructure are expected to support the plant's efforts to scale up operations and strengthen its manufacturing capabilities.
With the pellet plant project and the earlier coke oven and sinter plant orders, the ongoing development highlights the scale of industrial infrastructure investment associated with IISCO Steel Plant's planned production expansion.
The project also adds to the broader industrial activity in West Bengal, where large-scale manufacturing facilities continue to play an important role in the state's industrial landscape.
