Howrah Junction is set to take another significant step in expanding its railway infrastructure. Eastern Railway will inaugurate the new 635-metre-long Platform 24 this month, strengthening the station's capacity to accommodate growing passenger traffic and additional train services.

Recognised as one of Asia's busiest railway stations, Howrah Junction continues to witness increasing demand from both long-distance and suburban passengers. The new platform forms part of a wider infrastructure modernisation programme aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing the passenger experience.

Alongside Platform 24, Eastern Railway is undertaking several passenger-focused upgrades across the station. These include the construction of new lifts, escalators, foot overbridges, and the extension of existing platforms to accommodate longer trains while improving accessibility and passenger movement.

The expansion comes as the Howrah Division records strong operational performance. During the first quarter of FY27, the division generated a record ₹1,191 crore in revenue while serving more than 10 crore passengers, reflecting the growing importance of Eastern India's railway network.

The additional platform capacity is expected to enable the introduction of more train services from Howrah Junction in the coming months. Among the anticipated additions is the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, which is expected to further strengthen long-distance rail connectivity from eastern India.

As passenger volumes continue to rise, investments in station infrastructure are becoming increasingly important. The expansion of Howrah Junction not only improves operational flexibility but also reinforces the station's position as one of India's most critical transportation hubs, supporting regional connectivity, economic growth, and future railway expansion.

With Platform 24 set to become operational, Howrah Junction continues its transformation into a larger, more modern railway hub capable of meeting the growing mobility needs of millions of passengers every year.
