Jindal Stainless to Invest ₹900 Crore in Kharagpur, Expands Manufacturing Footprint in West Bengal
Jindal Stainless is strengthening its presence in West Bengal with a major investment aimed at expanding its downstream stainless steel manufacturing capabilities. The company is investing ₹900 crore across its Kharagpur facility in Bengal and Hisar in Haryana as part of its broader capacity expansion plans.
Kharagpur Facility to Drive Higher-Value Stainless Steel Production
Located at Vidyasagar Industrial Park, the Kharagpur facility spans around 60 acres and currently has a cold-rolling capacity of 250 KTPA, along with 50 KTPA capacity for pipes and tubes.
The planned expansion will enhance the facility’s ability to manufacture thinner and higher-value stainless steel products. These products are expected to cater to a wide range of industries, including automotive, appliances, food processing and other industrial applications.
The Kharagpur expansion is targeted for commissioning by the second quarter of FY28.
Jindal Stainless Expands Overall Capacity
The investment forms part of Jindal Stainless’ wider strategy to increase its downstream manufacturing capacity and move further towards value-added stainless steel products.
The company’s overall cold-rolling capacity is expected to increase from 2.05 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 2.67 MTPA by FY28.
Jindal Stainless is also targeting sales of around 3.5 MTPA by FY29, reflecting its plans to expand both production capabilities and its presence across key end-user industries.

The Kharagpur investment adds to the growing pipeline of industrial investments in West Bengal and strengthens the region’s position in advanced manufacturing.
