Kolkata Becomes Home to India’s Third Quantum Computer

Kolkata has officially joined the elite league of cities pioneering quantum computing in India. The third quantum computer in the country has been installed at TCG CREST, Salt Lake Sector V, marking a significant milestone for the city’s technology and innovation ecosystem.

This 5-qubit quantum computer operates at an extraordinary temperature of –273.15°C, just 0.01°C above absolute zero. At this extreme temperature, quantum states can be precisely controlled, enabling calculations that are impossible for classical supercomputers; computations that would take hundreds of years can now be completed in seconds.

Quantum computers like this one leverage the principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform highly complex computations.
