Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in West Bengal on a two-day visit, during which he launched a series of development and railway projects, announced major agricultural initiatives, and released the 23rd instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.

Addressing a gathering at Tarakeswar in Hooghly district, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several infrastructure and development projects aimed at strengthening connectivity and boosting economic growth in the state.

A key highlight of the visit was the release of over ₹18,880 crore under the PM-KISAN scheme. The amount has been transferred directly to the bank accounts of more than 94 million farmers across India. In West Bengal, over 45 lakh farmers are expected to benefit, receiving nearly ₹907 crore collectively.

The Prime Minister also announced the rollout of several agricultural initiatives, including the Agri Stack under the Digital Agriculture Mission, the National Mission on Natural Farming, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana. These programmes are aimed at improving productivity, enhancing digital access for farmers, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Ahead of the visit, PM Modi extended greetings on Paschimbanga Divas, highlighting West Bengal’s contribution to India’s cultural, intellectual, and economic development.

On the second day of his visit, the Prime Minister will participate in International Yoga Day celebrations at Red Road in Kolkata. He is also scheduled to attend a programme at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Garden Reach, underscoring Kolkata’s growing importance in India’s maritime and strategic infrastructure landscape.

The visit reflects continued investments in West Bengal’s infrastructure, agriculture, and public welfare sectors, with a focus on improving livelihoods and accelerating development across the state.
