TCS and Wipro's New Town Campuses Cleared to Resume Construction
Construction of two of West Bengal's largest IT campus projects is set to resume after the state government cleared the developments following detailed safety audits.
Work on the upcoming TCS and Wipro campuses in New Town had been temporarily suspended last month after the Garden Reach warehouse collapse, when the government imposed a precautionary halt on construction of commercial buildings and high-rise residential projects across the state.
With the safety review now complete, both projects have received approval to restart construction.
TCS is developing a 20-acre campus at Bengal Silicon Valley in New Town. Once fully operational, the campus is expected to generate around 25,000 direct jobs, with the first phase alone creating approximately 5,000 employment opportunities.
Wipro has also received permission to resume work on its second campus in New Town, spread across 50 acres. The project is expected to further strengthen Kolkata's position as one of eastern India's leading IT destinations.
The resumption of these projects marks a significant step for West Bengal's technology sector, ensuring that two of the state's biggest IT investments are back on track after weeks of uncertainty. As construction progresses, the campuses are expected to attract more technology talent, create thousands of jobs, and reinforce the growth of Bengal Silicon Valley as a major technology hub.
