Titagarh Rail Systems Signs MoU with Siemens to Explore Global Metro Projects

Bengal-based Titagarh Rail Systems is expanding its ambitions in the global rail market after signing a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Siemens to jointly explore international metro rolling-stock opportunities.

Under the proposed partnership, Titagarh Rail Systems and Siemens will evaluate metro rolling-stock projects in international markets on a case-by-case basis. The collaboration could help Titagarh leverage its manufacturing capabilities alongside Siemens’ global network and technology expertise.

The development comes as Titagarh continues to strengthen its passenger rolling-stock business. The company’s new Uttarpara Design & Operations Centre is aimed at enhancing its design, engineering and customization capabilities for passenger rail projects.

Titagarh is also targeting an annual production capacity of around 850 passenger coaches by FY29. This expansion reflects the company’s increasing focus on passenger rolling stock alongside its established freight wagon business.

At the same time, wagon production is being moderated to around 600–650 units per month. This could create greater room for the company to pursue passenger rail and international metro opportunities as additional growth drivers.

For Titagarh, the Siemens partnership represents a potential step towards expanding its presence beyond the Indian market. International metro projects could provide the Bengal-based manufacturer with an opportunity to participate in major urban transportation projects across global markets.

The collaboration also highlights the growing capabilities of West Bengal’s rail manufacturing ecosystem, with Titagarh seeking to position itself as a player in the international metro and passenger-rolling-stock market.
