West Bengal has moved a step closer to introducing a new industrial policy after the state’s Group of Ministers approved the final draft aimed at attracting fresh investments and making it easier for companies to set up and expand operations in Bengal.

The proposed industrial policy includes special incentives for companies with registered offices in West Bengal. The government is also expected to clear outstanding incentives reportedly exceeding ₹10,000 crore, with micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) set to receive priority.

The new industrial policy is expected to place greater emphasis on emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and data centres, alongside Bengal’s traditional industries.

These sectors are being positioned as important areas for attracting new investments and creating opportunities across the state’s industrial ecosystem.

A dedicated roadmap for MSME growth is also planned as part of the policy, with the sector expected to remain a key component of Bengal’s industrial expansion.

Draft to Go Through Cabinet Approval

Following the Group of Ministers’ approval, the draft will now be vetted by the Chief Secretary before being placed before the state Cabinet for final approval.

The policy will come into effect after receiving the Cabinet’s approval and is expected to be unveiled before Durga Pujo.

The new framework is expected to set the direction for West Bengal’s industrial development, investment incentives and sectoral priorities in the coming years.
