Eden Gardens turned into a sea of celebration as the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) hosted a grand felicitation for India’s World Cup-winning star Richa Ghosh — Bengal’s very own pride from Siliguri.

In the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Richa was conferred with the prestigious Banga Bhushan award, appointed as an honorary Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in West Bengal, and honoured with a gold-plated bat and ball by CAB, led by Sourav Ganguly.

To mark her match-winning performance in the final, CAB also presented her with a ₹34 lakh cheque, symbolic of her 34 runs in India’s World Cup triumph.

The event, attended by Jhulan Goswami, Aroop Biswas, and Manoj Tiwary, reflected the immense pride Bengal takes in its rising cricket stars.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praised Richa’s spirit, saying:

“Richa will win the world with love,  again and again. Mental strength is the greatest strength of all.”

Sourav Ganguly added:

“We hope one day to stand here and say — Richa is the captain of India.”

From her humble beginnings in Siliguri to becoming a World Cup hero, Richa Ghosh’s journey is an inspiring tale of determination, hard work, and resilience — a shining example for every aspiring sportsperson in Bengal.
