Hooghly Riverfront Set for ₹600 Crore Hospitality Push as Eden Realty Plans Three Luxury Hotels

The Hooghly riverfront is set for a major hospitality boost, with Eden Realty planning to invest around ₹600 crore through 2030 to develop three luxury hotel properties across Garden Reach and south Howrah.

The proposed projects are expected to add around 360–380 rooms and strengthen the Hooghly riverfront as a destination for luxury hospitality, weddings, tourism and large-scale events.

The largest of the three projects is a ₹350-crore luxury hotel in Garden Reach. Spread across 10 acres, the property is planned to have around 200 rooms and will primarily target the growing wedding and events market.

Another 100-room hotel is proposed in Shibpur on approximately 6.5 acres. The project is expected to involve an investment of around ₹150 crore.

Eden Realty is also planning a 60–80-room herbal spa property near the Botanical Garden. The project is estimated to require an investment of around ₹100 crore and will add a wellness-focused offering to the riverfront hospitality network.

Mayfair Hotels & Resorts in Talks to Operate Two Properties

Mayfair Hotels & Resorts is reportedly in advanced discussions to operate two of the three proposed hotels. Initial term sheets have been signed, with due diligence currently underway.

The involvement of an established hospitality operator could add further strength to the projects and help position the properties in the premium and luxury segments.

Riverfront Land and Ferry Connectivity

The projects are being enabled through long-term leases of riverfront land from Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata.

Eden Realty also plans to introduce dedicated ferry services using nearby jetties to connect the proposed properties. The planned water-based connectivity could create an integrated riverfront network, particularly for weddings, corporate events and other large gatherings.

With multiple hospitality properties connected through the Hooghly, the development could offer a distinctive alternative to conventional event and hotel destinations in and around Kolkata.

A New Hospitality Opportunity Along the Hooghly

The proposed ₹600-crore investment comes as the Hooghly riverfront continues to see growing interest for tourism, leisure, commercial and hospitality-led development.

The three projects, once developed, could add significant premium accommodation capacity while creating new venues for destination weddings, events and wellness tourism.

The combination of luxury hotels, riverfront locations and dedicated ferry connectivity could also give the Garden Reach–Howrah stretch a new identity within Kolkata's wider hospitality ecosystem.

For Kolkata and Howrah, the development represents another potential step towards unlocking the commercial and tourism value of the Hooghly riverfront.
