Kolkata is set to witness another major football spectacle as two-time FIFA World Cup champions Uruguay will face India in an international friendly on October 6 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, popularly known as Salt Lake Stadium.

The high-profile fixture will be part of a packed international friendly window for the Indian men's national football team. India will first face Panama on September 26 in Bengaluru before returning to Kolkata for a much-anticipated clash against five-time world champions Brazil on October 3.

Uruguay will then arrive in Kolkata for the October 6 fixture, giving football fans in the city the opportunity to watch another historic footballing nation in action.

Uruguay are among the most decorated teams in international football and have won the FIFA World Cup twice, in 1930 and 1950. The South American side are currently ranked 20th in the FIFA World Rankings.

The fixture also has an interesting connection to Indian football. Uruguay's current head coach, Diego Forlán, played for Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League in 2016.

With Brazil and Uruguay both scheduled to play in Kolkata within a few days, the city is set for an extraordinary football week. The October fixtures are expected to bring global attention to Kolkata's long-standing football culture and the iconic Salt Lake Stadium.

For Indian football fans, the opportunity to see two World Cup-winning nations in Kolkata in the same international window makes this a landmark period for the city's football calendar.
