The Siliguri Corridor in West Bengal is set for a major infrastructure upgrade, with the Union Government approving ₹2,077.18 crore for the four-laning of the 31.02-km Bagdogra–Galgalia section of NH-327 in Darjeeling district.

The project will cover the Panitanki–Kharibari stretch and include three major bridges, one road over bridge (ROB), five elephant underpasses and service roads on both sides. The upgrade is expected to improve road capacity and ease congestion across Bagdogra, Naxalbari, Kharibari and Panitanki.

The project will also strengthen connectivity to Bagdogra Airport and improve road links between West Bengal and the Northeast. Given the Siliguri Corridor’s strategic location, the upgraded highway is expected to further strengthen connectivity with Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

The improved road network could also support regional economic activity by facilitating faster movement of Bengal’s tea, horticultural produce and agricultural products to larger markets.

With its combination of strategic, commercial and regional importance, the NH-327 upgrade is expected to strengthen the Siliguri Corridor as a critical connectivity and economic gateway for North Bengal and the Northeast.
